Product Differentiation

Summary of Key Differentiation Between Desert Saber’s Conundrum™ platform and Existing Simulation "Solutions", Corporate Training Videos and Slide Shows

Existing training simulators, are complete, accurate, easy to use and provide good feedback; they are easy to get better metrics than simple training via video or classroom, however, the real world is more complex than that and Desert Saber goes the next step by providing far more depth, flexibility and advanced training capability.

Changing the Trainer Paradigm:

  • Unlike traditional CBT and simulators, corporate training videos and slide shows, training is no longer limited to trainer availability at a given time or place.
  • Trainers can interact, observe, and assess in real-time from any location (in the same building or elsewhere) in any training session.
  • A trainer only interacts when requested, required, or sees a need.
  • Whether by watching quietly, or taking over an NPC during a scenario, the trainer can quietly view progress or directly interact with the learner.
  • This is the ultimate flexibility for trainers, as learners sometimes need coaching.

Changing the Learner Paradigm:

  • Unlike traditional CBT and simulators, there are no "pre-training" videos, slide shows, or instructional introductions required.
  • Learners must stay engaged for the session to proceed.
  • Learners can get real questions answered by in-game NPCs or an in-game live remote trainer.
  •  Sessions are paced by the individual learner.
  • Desert Saber's engaging approach builds retention.

Changing the Learner Paradigm - Infinitely Adaptable:

  • Desert Saber’s platform is not “one and done” like a traditional simulator, corporate training videos or slide shows.
  • With Conundrum™ each decision made by a user alters the scenario.
  • The scenario automatically morphs as the worker makes decisions.
  • The course will seem different each time the user takes it.
  •  Learners stay engaged; Learners learn more.

Communications :

  • Traditional CBT and simulators have no dimension for typical jobsite human interaction and dialog (e.g. normal jobsite radio traffic, etc.); all jobs require communications.
  • Desert Saber’s incorporation of the latest AI tools with regards to speech recognition, speech to text and text to speech lets the learner verbally and textually interact with the system, trainer and other learners during the training.

Personalization :

  • Traditional CBT and simulators, corporate training videos and slide shows take everyone through the same training in the same sequence, but no two people learn the same way.
  • Desert Saber’s interaction automatically adjusts to the individual learner's skill set.
  • As the learner learns, the scenario emphasizes different skills.
  • A lesson is never the same, whether for a different learner or regardless how many times the same learner takes the same class.

Customizable :

  • Traditional CBT and simulators, corporate training videos and slide shows are typically "one and done" (no changes can be made to the learning content).
  • Desert Saber’s platform is designed to easily modify training scenarios without the need for time consuming code recompilations.
  • The employer can easily change training module content.
  • Ever changing SOPs are easily accommodated.
  • Desert Saber helps the company and its employees adapt to changes.

Team Work:

  • Traditional CBT and simulators are typically focused at individual training.
  • Desert Saber’s platform provides for multi-user interaction even if learners are in different locations; few people work in isolation.

Desert Saber's Unique Architecture:

  • Traditional CBT and simulators are typically focused at teaching one task and do not consider job-site interaction.
  • Different crafts can train in same world, just like real world.
  • Workers, such as a conductor in one scenario, can interact with other workers, such as an engineer, in a multi-user scenario.
  • After all, workers don’t work in isolation.

Analytics:

  • Simple metrics like scores and completion time found in traditional CBTs and simulators do not adequately and consistently identify competency or predict behavior.
  • Desert Saber’s built-in analytics provide deeper insight into what a learner knows, knows how to do, and the learners capability to adapt to potential issues and new challenges.
  • Desert Saber's comprehensive analytics identifies the alignment of each learner's behavior with what is needed for the job.
  • Conundrum™ applications can be used by non-traditional entities such as HR and shift supervisors to determine job fitness, awareness, preparedness and adaptability.

Open World:

  • Traditional CBTs and simulators constrain the world to the narrow jobsite.
  • Just like the real world, learners are free to go anywhere or interact with anything in the environment, even if that location or interaction has little or nothing to do with the learning objective at hand.
  • This approach places responsibility for understanding and completing objectives on the learner, rather than leading them through a sequence of “slide show” lesson points.
  • The open world approach promotes consciously focusing on an objective (despite distractions), encourages analytical thinking, and allows arbitrary complications to be introduced (e.g. adverse weather, traffic in the area, equipment break-down, etc.).
  • Unlike the fixed worlds of CBT or simulators, an open world gives the learner more latitude to make good and bad decisions; decisions have consequences, and consequences (whether good or bad) are injected into the open world to further affect the scenario.

Persistence :

  • Traditional CBTs and simulators typically start each time in the same setup.
  • Desert Saber's open worlds can be configured as persistent.
  • In a persistent world, the detailed state of the world persists from one training session to another.
  • If tools are left lying around or a hazard was created during one training session, it will persist into the next training session.
  • This feature not only promotes making sure a job site is properly cleaned up after work, but also promotes making a detailed inspection of a job site before work begins.
  • It also instills the potential consequences of one's actions.
  • Persistent worlds also support shift change scenarios, as well as re-entering a site that had to be abandoned due to weather, fire, or other disasters.
